Wrestling matches were something that bound us together in our neighbourhood back in the day. We were especially drawn to the rare, special matches; fenced-ring fights. This is where several wrestlers battled inside a towering cage. The only way to win was to climb over the high walls and escape. Anyone who attempted to climb out was instantly attacked by the others.
I remember one particular match involving Bret Hart, one of our favourite wrestlers. As he began climbing, he was brutally pulled down and attacked. When he finally got back on his feet, clearly wounded, he did not retreat. He fought again, but this time with a singular focus: to climb out. It took immense effort, resilience, and persistence. After fending off relentless resistance, he finally reached the top and escaped the ring, winning the match.
Wrestling may have been entertainment, but its lessons mirror real life.
The Climb Toward Purpose
Life begins to change the moment you realize that you have a unique purpose. Some call it a seed of greatness within you. Greatness is not merely fame or success – it is the feeling of deep fulfilment you realize when you live in alignment with that purpose.
Some are meant to be artists whose work brings light to the world. Others are destined to lead, to build, to heal, to serve, or to inspire. Whatever form it takes, purpose always involves adding value and uplifting others. Anyone can climb. Anyone can rise.
But purpose does not arrive on a silver platter.
As you climb away from mediocrity toward your calling, resistance is inevitable. Sometimes it appears as difficult circumstances. More often, it comes through people; their doubts, criticisms, and actions. These forces are not personal; they are distractions meant to pull you down and keep you where you are.
The Choice: Fight or Hide
During those wrestling matches, there were always fighters who never even attempted to climb. Out of fear of being attacked, they stayed hidden in the crowd. Their only role became attacking those who dared to rise.
Are you hiding among the majority, afraid to stand out in pursuit of your purpose? Have you chosen safety over significance? As John A. Shedd wisely said, “A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for.”
Ask yourself honestly:
Is who you are today all that you were created to be?
Or have you unconsciously become someone who resists the growth of others because you’ve abandoned your own climb?
Time Is Not the Enemy
Do not fall into the trap of believing you are too young or too old to pursue your purpose. One wise thought puts it clearly: if you are eighteen and destined to live until twenty-two, then you are already old. If you are sixty and meant to live to ninety, then you are still young.
No one knows how much time they have. That’s exactly why each day must be lived fully, intentionally, and courageously.
Detaching From the Fall, Attaching to the Vision
To succeed in climbing toward your greatness, you must detach your thoughts and emotions from negativity and attach them to a clear vision of your purpose. Many people remain stuck because they are chained to past failures, painful memories, or outdated versions of themselves.
Can you rise above your current self-concept?
Can you imagine what it would feel like to live your purpose?
Those emotions; clarity, fulfilment, joy – all become the magnetic force that pulls you upward as you take action towards your destiny.
Reflection
- Where in your life are you choosing safety over your growth?
- Who or what has been discouraging you from climbing – and why are you giving it power?
- What would change if you fully committed to your purpose, despite resistance?
Today’s Challenge
Identify one area where you’ve been hiding instead of climbing.
Take one intentional action today – no matter how small – that moves you closer to your purpose. Progress begins the moment you decide not to stay down.
Affirmations
- I rise above resistance with clarity, courage, and unwavering commitment to my purpose.
- Every challenge I face strengthens my resolve and pulls me closer to my greatness.
- I release fear and distraction, and I boldly take action toward the life I was created to live
Call to Action
Stop waiting. Stop hiding. Stop attacking the dreams of others while neglecting your own.
Stand up. Climb again. Expect resistance – and rise anyway.
You were not created to blend in, settle, or spectate. You were created to fight for your purpose and break free from the cage.
Your greatness is waiting at the top. The only question is: will you climb?
